In a nutshell, TrackBack and pinging were designed to provide a method of notification between websites: it is a method of person A saying to person B, “This is something you may be interested in.” To do that, person A sends a TrackBack ping to person B. To sum it up, “pinging” or “trackbacks” provide an extremely easy and automated method of notifying the world that you have recently updated your weblog. I am currently in the process of creating a “gateway” that will allow you to manage your pings and trackbacks.
